Looking to Sell Your Mercedes-Benz 500E or E500?

The Mercedes-Benz 500E, later renamed the E500, is one of the most celebrated high-performance sedans of the 1990s.

Developed through an extraordinary collaboration between Mercedes-Benz and Porsche, the W124-based 500E combined understated Mercedes luxury with a powerful 5.0-liter M119 V8 derived from the 500 SL. Porsche was deeply involved in development and assembly, while the widened body gave the car its distinctive muscular stance.

The 500E went on sale in 1991, and the name changed to E500 in 1993 as part of Mercedes-Benz’s revised model nomenclature. Production continued through 1995. Porsche states that 10,479 examples were built by April 1995.

At Vintage Car Buyers, we actively purchase Mercedes-Benz 500E and E500 collector cars from private owners, estates and collections nationwide.

We consider mileage, originality, factory specification, paintwork, service history, ownership history, documentation and overall condition when evaluating each vehicle.

WHAT MAKES THE MERCEDES 500E & E500 COLLECTIBLE?

The Mercedes-Benz 500E and E500 occupy a special place in Mercedes-Benz history.

At first glance, the car resembles a traditional W124 sedan. Look closer and the differences become obvious: wider fenders, a lower stance, unique bodywork and a powerful V8 drivetrain transformed the executive sedan into one of the most distinctive performance cars of its era.

Its combination of Mercedes-Benz engineering, Porsche involvement, understated styling and limited production has made the 500E/E500 increasingly desirable among collectors.

Well-preserved cars with original paint, complete documentation, desirable colors, low mileage and strong service history can be particularly sought after.

BUILT IN COLLABORATION WITH PORSCHE

One of the most fascinating aspects of the 500E is its connection with Porsche.

Mercedes-Benz enlisted Porsche’s engineering expertise during development of the high-performance W124. The widened body created manufacturing challenges on the normal W124 production line, resulting in a unique production process involving both Mercedes-Benz and Porsche facilities.

This unusual collaboration helped create a sedan that combined Mercedes-Benz luxury and durability with serious performance engineering.

Today, the Porsche connection is one of the characteristics that makes the 500E and E500 especially interesting to collectors.

THE 5.0-LITER M119 V8

At the heart of the 500E/E500 is Mercedes-Benz’s sophisticated 5.0-liter M119 V8.

The naturally aspirated V8 gave the W124 performance far beyond that of the typical luxury sedan of its era while maintaining the refinement expected from a Mercedes-Benz.

Combined with the car’s wider track, upgraded suspension and braking system, the V8 helped establish the 500E as one of the great European performance sedans of the 1990s.

When evaluating a 500E or E500, we consider engine condition, maintenance history, drivetrain originality and documented service records.

ORIGINAL 500E & E500 CARS ARE ESPECIALLY DESIRABLE

Originality can have a significant impact on collector interest.

We are especially interested in cars retaining:

Original engine and drivetrain • Factory bodywork • Original interior • Factory wheels • Original paint • Factory colors • Books and manuals • Tool kit • Service records • Ownership documentation • Original factory equipment

However, your Mercedes does not need to be perfect or completely original.

We also purchase higher-mileage cars, restored examples, vehicles requiring mechanical work and 500E/E500 models that have been tastefully modified.

E500 LIMITED & RARE SPECIFICATIONS

Some versions of the Mercedes-Benz E500 are especially desirable among collectors.

The E500 Limited represents one of the most sought-after versions of the W124 V8 performance sedan. Produced in very limited numbers near the end of production, these cars featured distinctive factory equipment and are particularly attractive to collectors seeking rare Mercedes-Benz models.

We are especially interested in:

E500 Limited • Rare Factory Colors • Low-Mileage Cars • Highly Original Examples • Special Factory Equipment • Documented Ownership History • Exceptional Collector Cars

If you are unsure whether your E500 is a Limited or another unusual specification, send us the VIN and photos and we can evaluate the vehicle.

EUROPEAN & JAPANESE-MARKET 500E / E500

Not every desirable 500E or E500 was originally delivered in the United States.

We actively purchase European-market and Japanese-market Mercedes-Benz 500E and E500 models, including vehicles that have already been imported into the United States.

Imported cars can have unusual colors, equipment and specifications that make them particularly interesting to collectors.

Documentation such as original books, service records, import paperwork, auction records and ownership history can help us properly evaluate an imported example.

HAVE A 500E OR E500 WITH UNKNOWN HISTORY?

That’s okay.

Many collector vehicles change hands without complete documentation. Others are inherited, discovered in long-term storage or purchased as part of a larger collection.

Send us the VIN, mileage, photographs and any records you have available.

We consider cars with incomplete histories as well as vehicles requiring mechanical or cosmetic work.
